National costumes from Spanish cities such as Salamanca and Segovia have long fascinated Manolo and this collection’s prominent detail which features on many shoes, has come to life from a photograph of a man in traditional dress from Salamanca. The details around the buttons of his jacket turned into the squiggly detail on these styles. Mr Blahnik has seen photographs by Ortiz-Echague since his childhood and a few years ago he found at an antique market a book with a collection of his photographs and felt a wave of inspiration after looking through it.
